Writing for a newspaper in Skagway, Alaska could be a good idea if you are looking for a paper with a circulation of around 1,000. That is 1,400 less than the circulation of my college newspaper, “The Denisonian,” if you count only the student body.

The phrase hyperlocal comes to mind when thinking of news through a locational lens. Do global affairs matter to a hyper local audience who spend most of their time in one place? What sections of the Skagway News are the most read? There will always be a market for local news though, as small towns dot the majority of the American landscape.

Hyperlocal reporting may not be glamorous, but it is arguably the most impactful, most widely read, and most necessary to the communities it serves! In addition, Skagway, Alaska seems like an excellent summer vacation spot!
