Poynter.com refers to Josh Tyrangiel as a serial innovator. He has spent time at Time Inc. working on Sports Illustrated, Bloomberg converting their BusinessWeek magazine, and as a former MTV producer.

“[Tyrangiel] is fusing his old media and new media skills and marrying them with the energy of a brash digital juggernaut, Vice, as he prepares to launch “Vice News Tonight” on HBO starting Monday,” says the Poynter article. It will also be on HBO NOW, HBO Go,  and HBO On Demand.

This is Tryangiel and Vice’s stab at a nightly news broadcast. The Poynter article goes further to claim that “Tyrangiel and company plan to the ditch some old tropes of broadcast news in favor of long-form field pieces and cutting-edge graphics.”

Vice News is known for its creative ability to reach a millennial audience that has lost interest in nightly TV programming. Tyrangiel could bring Vice the network TV viewership that it wants.
